The evolution of the iconic PEUGEOT lions
Since the iconic PEUGEOT lion first appeared in 1850, it has constantly evolved and has perpetually highlighted the passionate, feline character of the brand.
1905
THE BIRTH OF A CLAW
The grilles of Lion PEUGEOT brand cars were crowned with the lion walking on an arrow. Over the next few years, bikes and tools used variations of the same theme.
1923
THE LION PHENOMENON THRIVES
PEUGEOT owners also adorned their radiator caps with a lion, designed by the sculptor Baudichon.
1933
THE LION REIGNS ON THE GRILLE
Every PEUGEOT car featured a lion’s head at the top of its grille from 1933. In 1935, its design changed in the form of the “fuseau Sochaux” line.
1948
THE 203 ADOPTS THE LION FROM FRANCHE-COMTÉ
A lioness’ head embellished the bonnet of the 203, which also featured new insignia with the lion from the Franche-Comté coat of arms.
1955
THE FRANCHE-COMTÉ LION IS ALSO ADDED TO THE 403
For safety reasons, lions’ heads were later withdrawn from the bonnets of both the 203 and 204 in September 1958.
1960
THE LION CHANGES ITS STYLE
The PEUGEOT 404 inaugurated a new lion with a flowing mane, crowned with PEUGEOT lettering and set in the centre of the grille.
1968
THE LION BREAKS NEW GROUND
On the 504, the lion adopted a super-sleek style, a flat shape and was either gold- or chrome-plated.
1975
THE LION OUTLINE
The new heraldic PEUGEOT lion was showcased with angular features, empty in the middle, and was known as the lion outline.
1998
THE LION EVOLVES AND SHOWS GREATER DEPTH
The logo displays greater depth through the reflections of its new chrome finish.
2010
THE LION ADOPTS A NEW STANCE
The more dynamic, intensely fluid PEUGEOT lion is created with a bi-metallic effect through its contrasting matt and gloss finishing.

THE NEW FACE OF PEUGEOT
A new emblem: Accelerated lines, ready to roar with passion: the new coat of arms is inspired by the lines of the one from the 1960s, revisited to express a powerful modernity.
