lightweight hybridisation

As part of its vision to become a 100% electric brand by 2030, PEUGEOT is consistently electrifying its lineup, making it progressively more sustainable and aligned with our needs. This is evident with the introduction of the Hybrid 48V technology, initially debuted on the 3008 and 5008 models. In urban driving conditions, this innovative technology allows the car to run purely on electric power 50% of the time.

Turn your braking into energy!

According to Benoit Trémeau, 48V Hybrid Vehicle Design Manager at Stellantis, this system enables more economical driving by making the most of moments usually lost on a conventional combustion engine vehicle. How does the system work? It's very simple: it's made up of a brand-new, 136 hp, 3-cylinder, 1.2L PureTech petrol engine, specially developed for optimum integration with hybridisation, which is coupled to an innovative 6-speed, electrified, dual-clutch gearbox incorporating an electric motor. The whole system is connected to a small 48V battery under the front left seat. During deceleration, the vehicle's kinetic energy is captured and stored in the 48V battery. On re-acceleration, this energy is released via the electric motor. The electric motor can move the car on its own for light loads, or complement the internal combustion engine to reduce fuel consumption or improve performance. Recover then restore: this system is doubly efficient!

A smoother ride

Effectively, the driving experience mirrors that of traditional combustion engine vehicles. However, within city limits, an adaptive driving style can be used to amplify zero-emission phases, topping up to 50% electric driving. A lighter press on the gas pedal when starting or restarting, paired with forward-thinking obstacle anticipation using the regenerative brake, can eliminate brake usage while simultaneously charging the 48V battery. By clever use of the energy flow information from the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit, and fine-tuning your driving techniques, you can get an average fuel save of 15% or up to 30% in city driving. Plus, there's no need for recharging!

Technology for everyone

Whatever your lifestyle, 48V hybridisation will adapt to you. From short to long journeys, it will automatically ensure that you consume less. This system will eventually be available on all vehicles in the range, replacing automatic petrol engines. It's the ideal first step towards electrification, while emitting less CO2. If you want to go even further down the road to electrification, the plug-in hybrid  and 100% electric models are for you.

Drive connected!

If you want to drive 100% electric for longer than 48V Hybrid technology allows, the next step is the plug-in hybrid. PEUGEOT already offers powertrains with up to 42 miles of zero-emission range on its current 3008. This range means that most people can do without petrol for daily journeys, especially to work where companies offer recharging solutions. As for 100% electric vehicles, the current PEUGEOT range already offers up to 256 miles of range on the E-208, E-2008, E-308, and E-308 SW, and up to 326 miles with the brand-new E-3008.
