You may be familiar with the PEUGEOT road handling. And with good reason, it's been a feature of motoring journalism for many years. While it was known to aficionados, it has more recently been democratized among the public, thanks in particular to the success of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit , whose compact steering wheel enhances driving sensations tenfold. Here's a look back at this unique feature, a true signature of the Lion Brand.

What is the road handling?

Defining road handling is no easy task. If we had to formulate a clear and concise definition, we'd say it's the art of combining excellent road-holding with top-level driving pleasure. Road-holding requires perfect technical control of the functioning and interactions between running gear, suspension, and tyres.

Excellent road-holding simply means the car holds the road well, ensuring safety and top-notch comfort. Secondly, it brings more excitement to driving with a sporty feel and precise, efficient steering. This embodies PEUGEOT's expertise: blending these elements to deliver the best driving experience.

What's the secret of road handling?

Road handling is based on two factors. The first is damping know-how (reducing noise and vibration). PEUGEOT manufactured its own suspension components in-house for some time, acquiring invaluable experience. According to the Dynamic Synthesis engineers, this experience in shock absorber design has been key to mastering the vehicle's dynamics.

According to Gaëtan Demoulin, who was in charge of chassis synthesis and Peugeot customer synthesis for many years, the road environment around the historic Sochaux/Belchamp site is the second factor that enables efficient fine-tuning, as well as an understanding of road-holding, comfort, and steering pleasure. The development and validation of all ranges were carried out here.

For then and now

This unique PEUGEOT characteristic is far from new. While the 301 (the first mass-produced car in the world to be equipped with independent front wheels) can be traced back to the 1930s, it was the 205 GTi that gave rise to PEUGEOT's reputation for superior road-holding. Since then, a number of models have reinforced this idea, including the 308 sedan and the 3008 SUV. What do they have in common? Both feature the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit.

By totally redefining driving position, thanks in particular to the compact steering wheel, the Lion brand has enabled all motorists to experience the sensation of precision. From SUVs to vans to sedans, the entire current range benefits from superior road handling.

Rest assured, this feature remains a top priority in the development of every new model, and the E-3008 promises to be a pleasure to drive, too!

You can experience the famous PEUGEOT road handling by test-driving your favourite model at your nearest dealership.
